About The Scoop

The Scoop names the best businesses in town, one trusted guide per city, every category that matters, kept current. Not a directory, and the ranking is earned, not bought: a curated answer to the question locals actually ask, which is "who's the best around here?"

Why we built it

Finding a genuinely good local business has gotten harder, not easier. Search results are a wall of ads, directories list everyone and recommend no one, and review sites bury the signal under thousands of unfiltered opinions. The Scoop does the legwork. For each category in a town, we evaluate the local market the way a sharp local insider would, weighing reputation, track record, and what people consistently experience, then publish a short, ranked shortlist, so you can decide in a minute and call with confidence.

How rankings are decided

Every ranking starts with the market and ends with judgment:

For the longer version, see How We Pick.

About partner businesses

Our rankings are earned, never bought. Every business on a list is placed on merit, judged against the same standard, and the order is set by that judgment alone, never by money.

When a business we recommend also has a paid relationship with The Scoop, we label it a Partner. A business can only be a Partner if it already earns its place on the merits, the Partner label is always shown clearly, and the partnership never changes where it ranks or what we write about it. See How We Pick for more.

The Scoop Editorial Team

The Scoop is produced by The Scoop Editorial Team, led by Jeff Wilson and Tate Wilson. We believe local search deserves better than ad-cluttered directories and anonymous review piles, so we build one city at a time, starting with Yuma, Arizona, and we put our names on the work.

Jeff Wilson

Jeff Wilson

Founder

After years in local marketing, Jeff saw the same problem from both sides: great local businesses struggling to get found, and the people looking for them with no easy way to know who's actually worth calling. The Scoop was born to fix that, the one-stop shop he always wished existed.

Editor in Chief + System Architect

As system architect, Tate built what The Scoop runs on: the rating method behind every guide and the quality gates each list has to clear. As editor in chief, he owns the standard those systems enforce, so every guide is held to the same bar.

Corrections & updates

Every guide is date-stamped, and we update it as the local picture changes. Spot something out of date or flat wrong? Tell us and we'll fix it, the guide only works if it's right.
